Support to West Africa Integrated Maritime Security (SWAIMS) is a five-year (2019–2024) ECOWAS project funded by the European Union. It is implemented with technical assitance by DAI. SWAIMS logo

Objective: improve maritime security and safety in West Africa by:

  1. strengthening legal, governance and law-enforcement frameworks to better support maritime
    security; and,
  2. improving law-enforcement operational capacities and responses through customised
    institutional and technical capacity-building.

This is achieved through collaboration with SWAIMS’ implementing partners who are (in alphabetical order):

  • Académie Régionale des Sciences et Techniques de la Mer – Institut de Sécurité Maritime Interregional (Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire)
  • Camões, IP (Portugal)
  • Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA, an ECOWAS agency)
  • Regional Maritime University (Accra, Ghana)
  • United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)
